DRILLING. Cal. 12 Ga., 2 7/8" X 12 Ga., 2 7/8" X 9.3x74R. S# 338855. Bbls. 25 5/8", full length matted rib w/ pop up rear sight marked "9.3 X 74R" in milled out portion of rib. Tops of barrels marked "KRUPP " LAUFSTAHL". Makers name is marked around breech ends. Luftwaffe logo, a flying eagle gripping swastika in talons, is rolled on side of right barrel. Barrel flats stamped w/ July 1942 German proofs for 12 ga. 2 1/2" chambers & 9.3 x 74 rifle barrel. A Waffenampt is on rear lump. Casehardened scallop backed Blitz action features side safety, rifle selector on top tang, pin cocking indicators, crossbolt third fastener, side clips and double triggers (front set). Action engraved with sprays of scroll. "J. P. SAUER & SOHN, SUHL" is on each side & Sauer Suhl monogram is on trigger plate. W. ST mark on top tang. Trigger guard is of steel. Lightly fiddle figured European walnut steel capped pistol grip buttstock measures 14 1/8" over SSU embossed ribbed hard rubber buttplate. Stock features right hand cheekpiece, point pattern checkering & sling loop on bottom. Luftwaffe eagle stamped on right side of butt. Matching splinter forend has Deeley release. Bore diameters: left - .726, restriction: .042 (full), right - .725, restriction: .038 (full). Minimum wall thickness: left - .029, right - .029. DAH: 2 9/16". DAC: 1 9/16". WEIGHT: 7 lbs. 14 oz. CONDITION: fine. Barrels retain approx. 90% original blue. Eagle stamp is sharp. Action has about 60% casehardening color w/ loss from staining mostly on right side and bottom. Trigger guard and top tang are also considerably stained to brown. Action has been lacquered. Buttstock retains most of what appears to be its original oil finish w/ numerous scratches and a ding or two. Eagle is clear. Forend wood shows repairs, staining, light refinish and has been glass bedded to better fit barrels. Bores are shiny. Rifle bore has sharp rifling throughout. Action is tight. Set trigger works. Approx. 2500 of these guns were made and were part of the "survival gear" on board bombers and other large German aircraft. (20-891/MGM99). CURIO. $12,000-18,000.
