Maratha Confederacy, domains of the Peshwas - silver rupee and ¼ rupee in the name of Shah Ali Gauhar (Shah Alam II), 'Urf Poona' (Pune) mint, symbol of battle axe on reverse, M&W T5, 11.37g and 2.76g. (2 coins)

Extremely fine, Very rare.

The 'Furshee' (battle-axe marked) rupees were first struck at Chinchwad mint, run by the Dev family who were hereditary incarnates of Moraya Gosawi, a 17th century holy man and n ardent devotee of Lord Ganesha. Later the mint moved to Pune and carried on striking coins with the same mint mark. Fractional coins are very rare.
