DEMO LOT
Cal. 8mm. S# 46861. Bbl 30", marked "DWM". On a Maxim original sled mt. This MG08 Maxim was mfg. by D.W.M. in Berlin in 1918. Items that correspond matching the original S# in some variation of 46861, including parts as they get smaller dropping numbers off to become shorter & fit the space including 46861, 6861, 861 & 61 consist of left side plate, top cover, bbl. jacket, sights, bolt linkage, feed block, cocking lever, trigger safety, trigger, scope mt. & possibly others that are less clearly visible. Bolt originally marked 318 w/ a deep strike through, renumbered to 3545 to match the linkage which also carries the 61 indicating that it was original. Items w/ different numbers include oil brush caps which curiously are stamped 16 which is a transposition of the original number. Fusee cover is unnumbered & painted indicating that it may not be original. The bolt linkage bears an odd variation of an otherwise popular German Imperial proof mark. This a former example at one time on loan to the Evergreen Space & Aviation Museum. CONDITION: while both oil caps are free, left side retention spring is absent. Several components of sled mt., serial number 3568, are also absent though all adjustment settings from screw drives to simple mechanical height adjustments move freely & it enjoys full adjustment. Rear mounting pin, while the right size for the receiver portion on the mt. is too lg. in dia. to pass through the receiver of the gun & properly lock it into place. Top mounting strap functions perfectly to retain a positive grip. Forward water drain below bbl. jacket is absent as well as the drain cock. Firing mechanism functions smoothly in all aspects. Side plates retain the majority of their original blued finish as well as all external firing mechanism components. As w/ many examples from the WWI era, there are several areas of patina that have also infiltrated the finish. Fusee cover carries a different green shade of paint that differs from all other finishes. Water jacket finish is thin w/ a very light patina scattered throughout though not very noticeable at any distance & also has 2 sm. dents on left side towards the muzzle. Right grip has vertical cracks though they don"t seem to compromise the functionality. Bore has unusually predominant rifling. This MG08 will make an amazing functional display highlight of any early 20th century firearms collection. (03-1426/JZ). THIS IS A NATIONAL FIREARMS ACT CURIO & RELIC REQUIRING BATF TRANSFER BEFORE TAKING POSSESSION. FULLY TRANSFERABLE. $15,000-20,000.
