Winchester Model 1894 Saddle Ring Carbine
serial #887437, 30 W.C.F., 20'' nickel steel round barrel with full magazine and a very good bore with pinprick to perhaps light pitting but still showing strong rifling throughout. The barrel and magazine of this 1919-made carbine retain about 75% original blue with light wear along the barrel, the magazine tube showing moderate wear toning to gray along its underside, along with some scattered light handling marks and specks of old oxidation; mirrored half-circle notches have been added to the barrel and magazine immediately behind the upper band. The receiver has worn to a silvery-gray patina with flaking remnants of blue, becoming strong in the protected areas, some speckled oxidation staining, and a few light handling marks; the lever is in similar condition and the hammer retains nearly all its blue with only light operational wear. The straight grip gumwood stock is in good condition with a pair of about 1'' cracks on the lower half of both sides of the wrist, a short hairline crack also present at the top left of the wrist, along with wear at the toe and some dings and handling marks; ''D. HOOVER'' is neatly incise carved on the right side, near the edge of the butt. The forend is in very good plus condition with only a light abrasion or two, and both stock and forend show an added finish with a spot or two of light flaking; the steel carbine buttplate is intact and showing overall light oxidation staining. The Winchester factory markings are intact and crisp, and several screws show light slot wear. The rifle is sighted with a Marble's 94-C beaded blade front sight and a ladder-style adjustable rear sight, and the saddle ring and stud are intact. An honest Model 1894 SRC with plenty of life left in it. (14A11523-57) {C&R} [Jim Thrash Collection] (700/900)
