Winchester Model 1892 Lever Action Short Rifle, #701588, .44 WCF (.44-40) cal., blued 20'' octagonal barrel, with dovetailed blade front and adjustable buckhorn rear sights, marked with maker's name, address, and 1884 patent date on left angled flat at front band, and ''44 W.C.F.'' at breech; blued tubular magazine; blued frame is mounted with a screw-adjustable peep sight on upper tang; case hardened loop operating lever and hammer; oil-stained walnut stocks, forend with steel nose cap, buttstock with steel crescent rifle buttplate. Mfg'd 1913. Condition is very good. Barrel and mag tube retain perhaps 75% original blue; receiver shows an overall dark tone (perhaps added later over very fine pitting); lever and buttplate with overall gunmetal-brown tone. Stocks are solid and smooth with a repaired crack/filled area at right-side nose cap, and pleasing grain and color. Barrel and receiver seem to have been coated with a thin varnish-like finish. Action is smooth; bore is bright with defined rifling. Est.: $750-$1,000. (C&R)
