Walks Last was a Northern Cheyenne and participated in the Rosebud and Little Bighorn Battles. At Little Bighorn, a soldier shot at him and missed and then tried to club him with the carbine, breaking the stock. He killed the soldier by clubbing him with his war axe and took this carbine from him. The broken stock was replaced.
