WWII Civilian Japanese Katana Mounted for War Service, wartime oil-tempered shinogi-zukuri shaped blade measures 62cm (24-3/8") in length, gunome hamon, chu-kissaki with ko-maru boshi and short turnback, ubu nakago with four character signature, smiths name is Sukenori, copper habaki, old modern made cast iron tsuba with decorations of flowers, only one seppa and leather spacer, tsuka is covered in brocade silk and wrapped with brown ito cord, menuki are crickets done in shakudo with thin gold highlights, fuchi is modern made dark copper with flower decoration, kashira is wood, saya is wood, with remnants of a thin leather field cover, and metal ring mount. This type of sword was used by civilians working with the military. Condition is good, the blade being mostly bright, in need of proper cleaning. There is one light rust spot near the bottom edge, and a couple of fingerprint rust stains. The majority of the blade has a spotted appearance from old dried oil and debris, but may clean well with proper treatment. The tsuka shows age and soiling to the ito and brocade covering, with some wear from use. There is a remnant of a sword tassle attached at the top of the tsuka. The tsuba and fuchi show age and soiled patina. The saya has split in a couple of places, and the leather cover only partially there, held on with some string. Est.: $300-$500.
