109 Cabinet cards by Pach Brothers, New York City. All of the cabinet cards have penciled IDs, many notable figures among these photographs include Lt. Willard Young (1852-1936), who was the son of Brigham Young, graduating from West Point in 1872 & a professor in 1883. Young went on to be president of Brigham Young University & other posts in the Mormon Church. Many of the cadets went on to be career officers & generals in the U.S. Military and leaders in late Indian Wars, Spanish American War, & WWI. Cadet Charles Harvey Smith was killed in action, July 1, 1898, commanding & leading his troop in the assault on San Juan Hill. Cadet John William Heard won the Congressional Medal of Honor in Cuba during Span-Am war, later WWI general. Most of the professors had distinguished Civil War service also. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: correspondence between West Point concerning identities of each of the cadets & professors pictured. CONDITION: overall very good, good contrast, scattered soiling, staining & foxing. (02-13515/JS). $2,000-3,000.
