British India, India General Service Medal (1854-95), Victoria Queen, Silver, Awarded to "Sayad Ghulam", Clasp "Samana 1891", Obv: bust of Queen Victoria facing left, legend around "VICTORIA REGINA", Rev: Victory crowning a semi-nude seated warrior, bar with clasp "Samana 1891", engraved on the edge "Sayad Ghulam", 39.76g, 36.19mm, (MYB 2007 # 117), about extremely fine, Very Rare.

Note: The India General Service Medal 1854 – 1895 was instituted on 22nd December 1853 after the Pegu campaign - with a recommendation being approved three months later to issue further bars for the same medal for any future campaigns and actions. Titled the "India General Service Medal" but the geographical range covered by this medal is much larger, including Persia and Malaya.

The Samana is a ridge of hills running east-west, south of Khanki valley, marking the southern edge of the Tirah region. It is about 12 miles long and its highest point is 6000 ft. The Khyber Pass is some 30 miles to the north. It had been captured by the British in the Miranzai Expedition of 1891, along with two main forts built on it, Fort Lockhart in the middle and Fort Gulistan on the western end.
