OFFHAND RIFLE. Cal. 25 Stevens (?) Rimfire. S# 216. The predecessor of the famous "Ideal" series, it has been estimated that fewer than 2000 of these early rifles were made. This fine condition rifle has 30" part oct. / part rnd. bbl. fitted w/ globe front sight & uncut for any rear bbl. sight. Top left bbl. flat has Stevens markings w/ last patent date "AUG. 11. 1880". Casehardened action has 5 screw removable plate on right side & typical "S" lever. Top tang is mounted w/ mid range sight. Sm. parts are blued. Plain American walnut stock ends in nickel plated Swiss butt. Uncheckered forend has schnabeled tip. CONDITION: bbl. retains over 90% original blue w/ some high edge wear, thinning a bit toward rear from normal hand wear. Action retains 85-90% original casehardening color, fading at front & w/ some light flecking. Stocks retain most of their original varnish w/ numerous light marks & scratches. Nickel of butt is bright. Shiny bore, strong rifling w/ a number of pits toward breech end. A superb & attractive example of this early Stevens rifle. (01-17207/MGM32). ANTIQUE. $2,000-4,000.
