US MODEL 1803 HARPERS FERRY FLINTLOCK RIFLE
SERIAL NUMBER N/A BARREL 32 1/2" CALIBER 60 SMOOTH BORE MANUFACTURED 1805. Produced at the US Arsenal at Harpers Ferry and was the first of the Rifled arms the United States procured. Part octagon part round barrel with brass mounted half stock/ Lock marked " HARPERS FERRY 1805" with a large Eagle over US in center. Breech is marked with :P: proof and US inspection as well as 18536 date when barrel was bored to smoothbore. Small brass front sight with iron rear sight. Stock has been cleaned and has evidence of restoration around and with the brass patch box. Lock is believed to be a very old re-conversion from percussion back to flint but is so old it is very difficult to tell. Bore is dark. A very attractive Harpers Ferry 1803 overall with a properly functioning lock. ANTIQUE
