Monahseetah along with many other women became prisoners of the army after the Washita Battle. Thomas Custer took an interest in her and took her and her son to his quarters to live. He is said to have put her fussing baby in a basket outside where a stray dog killed him. Monahseetah later gave birth to a son by Thomas Custer, naming him Yellow Bird, and refused to live with Thomas Custer any longer. Thomas Custer was killed at the Battle of Little Bighorn along with his brother, General George A. Custer. When the battle ended Monahseetah, who was by this time General Custer's mistress, went to the battlefield. She found the bodies of the brothers, going to Thomas Custer's body first and mutilating his face, turning him facedown to the underworld. While doing that she found this revolver. She then went to her beloved George Custer's body, cleaned it and turned him face up to send him to the upper world (after life). Monahseetah kept Thomas Custer's revolver until Yellow Bird turned of age, when she gave it to him.
