The Crater Lake Monster (Phil Tippett Collection 1977) - Joe Laudati Signed Model.
Original display custom made by master sculptor and stop-motion animator Joe Laudati.
The Crater Lake Monster is the William R. Stromberg directed horror film, featuring Richard Cardella which story involves a giant plesiosaur, akin to the Loch Ness Monster, which was apparently long dormant in Crater Lake in Northern California, near Susanville, but is revived when meteorite falls into the lake. As people are attacked by the monster, the Sheriff (Cardella) investigates.
The stop-motion effects were created by Phil Tippett, who was also working concurrently on Star Wars. He animated several of the film's pivotal stop-motion sequences, helping craft the creature's movements as it interacted with the environment. He also assisted in building and sculpting the 15-inch dinosaur model (sculpting the body while David Allen handled the head).
This was Phil Tippett's first work in the horror genre.
Measuring " x ".
This was a custom painted piece gifted to Phil Tippett in 2012.
Joe Laudati is a renowned independent sculptor, stop-motion animator, and author. He specializes in hand-crafting highly detailed resin model kits of classic movie monsters, dinosaurs, and stop-motion characters, particularly inspired by the works of Ray Harryhausen and vintage sci-fi cinema.
