Note: Engraved by J. Rogers in 1851 from a large-scale painting by Henry Singleton, it illustrates the East India Company storming and seizing Seringapatam, Tipu Sultan's fortified capital and fierce opponent of British imperialism.  Lieutenant-General Lord Cornwallis, Governor-General of India, took Tipu's two sons as hostages in 1792, forcing Tipu to surrender to the British.
