American Horse Cheyenne is written in togia on this gun with a message: "American Horse-Cheyenne-Little Sheeps Creek". He became a great Cheyenne chief and headed both The Lightning Society and the Bow String Men Society and was a member of the Cheyenne Council of 44 chiefs. The Collector believes American Horse obtained this gun through trade with travellers that travelled through Cheyenne lands in 1865. American Horse was a scout for Miles for a short time and then settled on the Cheyenne Reservation where he died in 1911.
