SERIAL NUMBER 60382 BARREL 22" CALIBER 50-70 US GOV'T MANUFACTURED 1868. Produced immediately following the US Civil War. Blue finished barrel with oil finished stock and vividly case colored receiver and loading lever. Fire blue finish firing pin , extractor and screws. Nickel silver front sight blade and folding ladder style rear barrel mounted sight. These are the carbine used by US Army Troopers during the western expansion period and Indian wars. Many of these conversion carbines were sold to settlers for protection and to provide food for themselves and families. CONDITION. Exceptionally fine with a stunning brilliant bright bore. The receiver, loading lever and butt plate retain almost 100% of the vivid case colors. The barrel is equally fine with perfect sights. The stocks are superb with vivid , crisp cartouches. A small period shrinkage crack exist under the lock plate on the right side. Truly one of the best example we have ever seen offered and would be the centerpiece of any antique arms collection.
