Cal. 58. NSN. Bbl. 12" w/ oct. shank & rifled bore. Lock is fitted w/ Maynard tape primer device w/ eagle on cover. Front part of lock is marked "US / SPRINGFIELD", rear portion of lock has 1856 date. Blade front sight w/ 2 leaf folding rear sight. Band fastened walnut stock w/ brass buttcap, trigger guard, band & nose cap. Iron backstrap has fittings for shoulder stock attachment, stock is not present. Button tipped iron swivel ramrod. Forearm band & buttcap have provision for sling attachment. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: signed letter from Lt. Col. Brophy's daughter regarding this lot. CONDITION: bbl. has cleaned bright appearance w/ scattered pitting becoming heavy in breech area. Lock & hammer have dark patina appearance w/ spots of pitting. Priming device cover does not latch properly. Primer feed mechanism is intact. Nipple bolster cleanout screw is missing. Brass parts have dark tarnish w/ light dents & handling marks. Grip has age darkened appearance showing heavy wear w/ cracks in butt, sideplate & lock areas. Bore retains largely intact rifling w/ scattered pitting. PROVENANCE: From the collection of Lt. Col.
