Cal. 30-40 Krag. S# 78142. Bbl. 22". Pinned blade front sight w/ Model 1896 carbine rear sight. Finger groove carbine stock & handguard held by single high hump band. Stock features a trapdoor buttplate, saddle ring & bar on left side followed by a partially visible cartouche. The 1896 Krag Carbine is famous for being the Model that Teddy Roosevelt's Rough Riders used in the charge up San Juan Hill. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: signed letter from Lt. Col. Brophy's daughter regarding this lot. CONDITION: bbl. finish has faded to a mottled gray brown. Action finish is fading to gray w/ traces of blue in protected areas of mag. box. Model date shows attempt to change it to 1898. Refinished stock & hand guard showing scattered dents & marks. Bore has slightly darkened appearance retaining lightly worn rifling.
