Cal. 45-70. S# 340121. Bbl. 24" rnd. Hooded blade front sight w/ Buffington rear sight. Distinguished by it's nearly full length band fastened stock w/ uncapped tip & unique rounded sling swivel. 1873 Dated low arch breech block. Left side of stock has bar mounted saddle ring. Officially termed the " 24" Barrel Carbine ", only 1,000 were mfg. in 1886. Nearly all were issued to cavalry regiments in the American West. CONDITION: bbl. retains 80% fading blue. Receiver is fading to gray. Breech block, lock, hammer & trigger guard retain over 70% blue. Refinished stock shows a few handling marks. Bore is generally bright w/ moderately worn rifling showing some pitting. (01-17674/DS). ANTIQUE. $4,000-5,000.
