SERIAL 1063. BARREL 5 1/4". CALIBER .44CF. MADE 1872. "the most “updated” .44-cal. revolver in the Colt Patent Fire Arms stables - formed the basis for an entirely new cartridge revolver that didn’t rely on any previous Colt parts." Colt’s first revolver specifically manufactured to fire self-contained metallic cartridges. It was roll engraved with the same W.L. Ormsby 1843 Naval scene previously used on the 1851 Navy and 1860 Army cylinders. This gun features the elongated Model 1860 style walnut grip. Only 7000 were made and very few in center fire as most were chambered for the .44 Henry round This revolver features a six shot, single action with brass trigger guard, Naval scene on cylinder. Nickel plated with a shortened barrel. Most of these early Colt's have been plated. All matching numbers except cylinder which is quite common . Trigger guard is brass and has been cleaned. This gun was widely used on the Mexican border and few have remained in high condition. They are the iconic predecessor to the Colt SAA. Frame stamped Colt's patent. Barrel has one line address, Grips are one piece walnut. Classic old west gun in high condition. Condition. Retains at least 90% nickel with sharp legends Naval scene is strong and complete.
