(1950s) The Tahitian Lanai is one of the most mourned locations of the original Poly-Pop Tiki Era. It's innovative architectural design and creative direction by maverick artist, Ed Brownlee made the Waikikian the epitome of mid century modern. The Tahitian Lanai featured almost cartoony representations of Polynesia and this gorgeous carving is a testament to that. Pieces such as this were hung throughout the restaurant complex to allow light and air to permeate through the space. Huge open air eyes and mouth highlight this extremely large hand carved Tiki mask. Solid wood. A substantial, historic relic from one of the most admired locations of the Tiki Era. 43.75"x19.75". VG+
