Revolutionary War Documents - Collection of Seven. Four documents are pay orders addressed to John Lawrence, Treasurer of Connecticut, and signed by members of Connecticut's Pay Table Committee, ordering payment for items needed by the Continental Army. They are: (1) a 1776 order signed by Oliver Ellsworth for saltpeter to make gunpowder (2) a 1781 order to reimburse Deputy Quartermaster Ralph Pomeroy for supplies for the Continental Army (3) a 1780 order countersigned by Oliver Wolcott, Jr. to pay for supplies and supplies performed for the Army and the State; and (4) a 1781 order countersigned by Maj. Gen. J(edediah) Huntington to pay Col. Abraham Tyler 6.11.8. The other documents are (5) a 1781 interest-paying bond of the state of Connecticut with payment promised one year "after the expiration of the present war or a cessation of hostilities between Great Britain and these United States." signed by treasurer John Lawrence (6) a 1782 note given to a soldier in the Continental Line of the Continental Army, with interest through 1789 noted on the verso; and (7) a 1790 note for payment of interest on Revolutionary War debts. The last three documents have cancellation holes. The paper money given the soldiers was virtually worthless; it was about 1800 before the soldiers were paid and then with land grants, primarily in Ohio.
Estimated Value $600 - 800.
