Antique Remington Rolling Block Model No. 2 Sporting Rifle, #5436, .32 CF cal., blued 28-1/4'' octagonal barrel, with dovetailed folding globe front sight, plugged center dovetail, and adjustable sliding-disk peep rear sight, marked ''E. Remington & Sons, Ilion, N.Y.'' underneath rear sight, and ''32'' on bottom flat; case hardened receiver with integral triggerguard and automatic extraction is marked with Remington patent dates in six lines; blued hammer and breechblock; oil-stained walnut forend (with steel Schnabel nosecap) and ''perch belly'' buttstock with case hardened buttplate. Mfg'd ca. 1873-1910, in only a few thousand guns. Condition is excellent, barrel retaining approx. 90% deep glossy original blue with minor scattered age/handling marks, receiver and buttplate with nicely mottled case colors (lighter on buttplate), hammer and breechblock with deep blue. Stocks are smooth and solid with normal age/handling marks and nice color. Action is strong and smooth; bore is clean with defined rifling. This lovely little rifle with its longer-than-standard barrel and special sights incorporates the simplified rolling black action made famous by Remington. Est.: $600-$1,000. (Antique)
