Rare Winchester ''Thumb Trigger Model'' Bolt Action Boy's or Varmint Rifle, NVSN, .22 RF cal., 18'' round barrel, with dovetailed post front and notched rear sights, marked with maker's name, address and 1899-1905 patent dates, ''Thumb Trigger Model/22 Short, Long or Ex. Long'' and ''Winchester/Trade Mark Reg. in U.S. Pat. Off.'' on left side; action has auto extraction, knurled bolt knob, and thumb trigger behind bolt; oil-stained gumwood ''fish-belly'' halfstock has a large knurled screw retaining action in the stock, and a checkered hard rubber buttplate with ''Winchester/Trade Mark'' in a circular sunburst-like cartouche. Mfg'd ca. 1904-23. Condition is very good. Metal is overall gunmetal gray with scattered light rust erosion, and sharp markings. Stock is sound and smooth with minimal use marks; buttplate shows moderate wear with mostly clear checkering and markings. Action seems to function correctly; bore is clean with distinct rifling.
