ROMAN EMPIRE: Tiberius, 14-37 AD, AV aureus (7.62g), Lugdunum (Lyon, France), ND (after 16), S-1760, TI CAESAR DIVI AVG F AVGVSTVS; laureate head right // PONTIF MAXIM; Livia as Pax seated right on a throne with decorated legs, holding inverted spear & olive branch, light trace of have once possibly been mounted, barely visible, pleasing well-centered strike, attractive F-VF. The silver denarius of the identical design is commonly referred to as the "tribute penny " of the Bible, as explained in St. Mathew's Gospel (22, 17-21).
