SERIAL NUMBER 2892 BARREL 34" CALIBER 44.2 4/10 ( 44-90 STRAIGHT) MANUFACTURED CIRCA 1890. Fine Remington-Hepburn Creedmore single shot rifle with 34 inch round barrel with "E. REMINGTON & SONS ILION N.Y." on top and 44 2. 4/10 caliber designation on underside forward of forearm. Stocks are of highly figured oil finished walnut with round checkered pistol grip with matching checkered forearm with brown gutta percha forend tip. Butt plate is checkered brown gutta percha and of the shotgun design. Butt stock is fitted with base at heel for ear sight for use in Creedmore shooting. Lower tang, barrel and forearm are matching numbers and butt stock was not removed. Case colored receiver marked on lower right side "HEPBURNS PAT. OCT. 7TH 1879" Underside of chamber is English proofed and "NOT NITRO" Tang sight appears contemporary and measures 5" with and adjustable dioptor. Front globe sight is windage adjustable and appears contemporary. A very limited production of these rifles were ever produced and is believed to be on a few hundred. CONDITION, Very fine with the barrel retaining over 90% blue finish. Receiver retains 70% fading case colors with some staining at edges. The oil finished walnut stocks are extremely fine, full sized and with sharp checkering. The bore is very fine with sharp rifling with some very light earlier pitting just forward of chamber. Action operates properly with solid lock-up. A very fine Creedmoor rifle. ANTIQUE
