RICHMOND SHARPS BREECH LOADING CARBINE WITH ORIGINAL PATCH BOX. Cal. 52. S# 3177. 38" Overall. Bbl. 21" rnd. marked "RICHMOND VA" rear of fixed rear sight, brass bbl. band & pinched front sight. Government model Sharps were made in 1863 & 1864. This model conforms to other known example w/ the exception of a well fitted apparently original brass patch box & the lack of S#s on lock or bbl. This example is in very good overall condition & quite superior for other Confederate arms w/ traces of finish in "as found" condition. There are a few other known special made Richmond Sharps including engraved rifles. Regardless this is an aesthetically fine Confederate arm that would grace almost any Confederate collection. CONDITION: good to very good overall. Iron has mostly plum/brown patina w/ traces of finish in protected areas. Appears original & complete w/ exception of broken rear sling swivel & broken top of arm of breech block retaining lever. The Confederate breech block has matching assembly numbers "35". Stock has areas of raised grain w/ scattered dings, dents & other blemishes. There is a crack at rear of sling bar & a couple other cracks at tang w/ several chips along lock mortise. "RICHMOND VA" marking is well discerned. Brass has been cleaned w/ mixed light mustard patinas. Mechanically fine w/ well defined rifled bore. (01-17343/JS). ANTIQUE. $7,000-9,000.
