SHOT RIFLE. Cal. 32-35 Stevens ?. (Bottom of bbl. marked "35"). S# 1203. Few of these rifles were made. Predecessor of the famous "44" series, this rifle is a later version w/ 4 screw removable sideplate. It has 27 1/2" part oct. bbl. fitted w/ beech front & single leaf rear sights. Stevens & 1880 patent markings are on top left flat. Casehardened action w/ "S" opening lever has removable sideplate on right side. A mid range sight is mounted on top tang. Nicely crotch figured American walnut buttstock is fitted w/ nickel plated Swiss butt. Matching forend has schnabeled tip. CONDITION: bbl. retains approx. 50% original blue, considerably browned & w/ cleaning to gray brown around muzzle. Action retains 60% original casehardening color, stronger on left side w/ some scattered pitting. Stocks refinished in oil w/ a few subsequent marks. Buttplate retains 40% nickel, most loss on left side due to sanding w/ refinish. Shiny bore w/ strong rifling has 3 or 4 pits toward breech end. (01-17206/MGM34). ANTIQUE. $1,500-2,000.
