NAVY RIFLE. Cal. 52 RF. S# 93. Bbl. 32 1/2” w/out bayonet lug fitted w/ standard rear sight. Sliding action, finger lever marked “SHARPS” “PATENT” “1859” on left & “SHARPS” “&” “HANKINS” “PHILA’DA” on right. American walnut stock has brass buttplate. 3/4 Length forend w/ brass cap held by 2 spring retained bands & rear band w/ screw. CONDITION: fair to good. Metal parts have old refinish over near full coverage of fairly deep pitting. Stocks refinished over numerous deep marks & dings. Buttstock has long cracks either side running from comb toward butt. 2 Pieces of replaced wood are on right side of tang. Ears of rear sight base lowered. Bore is fair to good, strong rifling. Mechanically good. Lever retainer tip broken off. An important Civil War variant. (01-17498/MGM125). ANTIQUE. $1,800-2,500.
