SERIAL NUMBER VC1286 BARREL 9" CALIBER .44 ROCKET BALL MANUFACTURED CIRCA 1857. Invented by Victor Collette at the same time as the Volcanic, Hunt and Logon all had similar thoughts on self contained cartridges. The Gravity pistol with its 20 round open sided magazine rail and lifting breech feed mechanism is quite unique. Produced for a very short period of time in Belgium and quickly became obsolete with the introduction of metallic cartridges. Blue finished tapered octagon barrel with scroll and vine engraved frame. Carved / fluted one piece grip with fitted butt cap. Sliding safety. Marked on underside of barrel with serial number and under side of engraved frame "YOUNGER FRERES A LIEGE" top of wrist is marked "V. COLLETTE BREVETE". Collette patterned his unique pistols after the single shot belt pistols of the day. Cased in its walnut, French fitted case with green wool lining and includes the Rocket ball bullet bolt and casting plug. Turn screw and wiping rod. CONDITION, Very fine with function action. The pistol has a very fine bore and barrel retains over 90% fading blue finish with crisp markings. The grip is very fine with no material losses. The case and accessories are very fine.
