Produced at the tail of regular production an estimated 200 examples were produced. These civilian sold revolvers were quickly absorbed with examples going South as well as to American South West. Produced with a case color frame hammer and loading lever and blue finished barrel and cylinder. The large cylinder is roll engraved with the famed "Ranger & Indian" fighting scene with U,S,M,R, & COLT'S PATENT marking by W.L. Ormsby. These enormous horse pistols weighed 4 pounds, 2 oz, and were prized possessions. This example is found to be all matching with barrel, cylinder, frame, wedge, trigger guard, loading lever, back strap and one piece grips all being properly numbered. Single line New York Address on top of barrel and a drift adjustable rear sight install as is found on the later London examples. CONDITION. Good with revolver having toned to a pleasant chocolate patina with crisp legends and mostly visible cylinder scene. Grips remain full sized with slight material loss a toe from use. The gain twist bore is very fine with small areas of corrosion. The German silver blade front sight is slightly lowed to facilitate for installed rear sight alignment. The brass grip straps have toned to a mellow mustard. The action operates properly and locks up solidly. This is a very fine example of the Rare 8" Dragoon with a estimated 200 ever produced. ANTIQUE
