RARE 1944 “HOWARD COLE” 8-POINT KNUCKLE KNIFE.
This exact knife is described and pictured in Bill Walter’s “U.S. AND ALLIED MILITARY KNIVES WORLD WAR II”. Howard Cole is best known for his texts on World War II and other military knives. Even though Howard was turned down for military service due to medical issues, he still supported the war effort making combat knives in his garage which he called “Roebuck Works” being in the Roebuck section of Birmingham Alabama. Howard made about 250 unsigned knuckle knives of this pattern 1944-1945. This is his standard pattern “8-knucks knife” of which is highly faked today. This is a beautiful original survivor and truly excellent condition including sheath. PROVENANCE: Collection of Roger Ballard. (02-14708/JS). $4,000-5,000.
