MUSKET WITH OHIO SURCHARGED BARREL. Cal.69. NSN. 59 1/2" overall. Bbl. 44 3/4" rnd. w/ well discerned proofs at breech including "OHIO". Lock is well marked w/ eagle w/ sm. "US" inside shield forward of cock & "HARPERS / FERRY / 1815" on tail. Harpers Ferry produced almost 100,000 muskets between 1806-1818, 5,340 in 1815. Finding complete original muskets is rare from this era & this is a beautiful survivor. CONDITION: good to very good overall. Appears original & complete w/ exception of later ramrod. Original flintlock configuration. Metal overall is a dark plum/brown patina, protected areas are still bright. Good lock & bbl. markings, stock complete & sound w/ good inspector marks “V / JS” (John Stubblefield) & “V / MH” opposite lock, scattered cosmetic blemishes. Buttplate has heavy dark patina w/ pitting. Mechanically functional w/ smooth clear bore w/ pitting. PROVENANCE: Estate Collection of Dan Poppen. (01-17294/JS). ANTIQUE. $3,000-4,000.
