Princess Wenona Winchester 1892 Rifle
Princess Wenona, also known as Lillian Frances Smith was a Wild West Show trick shooting star, said to actually be a better shot than Annie Oakley. A major star of the 101 Wild West Show. She starred with famous showmen such as Buffalo Bill, Pawnee Bill and the Miller Brothers. Her history and accolades are well documented and written about in such books as "America's Best Female Sharpshooter", by Julia Bricklin, as well as in recent publications like True West Magazine. Serial #682515, 44-40 Smooth Bore, that's right, making this rifle even more desirable, this is a factory smooth bore rifle, which were commonly used by trick shooters and used in Wild West Shows, and are extremely rare. This 1892 Winchester rifle has a 24" round barrel, and had a cresent butt, which was removed for Wenona's personal needs, as well as has a piece of wood added to the top of the buttstock comb, as seen in the photo of her sitting on the paint horse. The rifle shows an overall brown patina, and light colored nicely fitting wood. Accompanied by a documented authentication letter, stating its linage, that it was aquired by L.F. Blake of Amarillo, TX in the late 1960's, where it was later put on display for many years in the Texas Ranger Museum in Waco, Texas. A true piece of Western history. C& R
