Gwalior - silver rupee in the name of Shah Alam II, Ujjain mint, struck during the regency of Baija Bai (1827-1833), with RY 23 of Muhammad Akbar II, sword and letter 'Shri' as mint-marks on reverse, 11.24g.

Extremely fine, Extremely rare.

Plausibly the rarest of the otherwise prolific issues of Ujjain mint. Silver coins were struck during Baija Bai's regency for minor king Jankoji Rao, which began after the death of Daulat Rao Sindhia in 1827, with the letter 'Shri' from a number of mints like Gwalior (Fort and Lashkar), Basoda, Sipri all with RY23.
