Gwalior - Jayaji Rao Sindhia (1843-1886 AD), silver rupee, in fictitious name of Muhammad Akbar II, Gwalior Fort mint, fixed date AH 1224, 11.04g, symbols of Farsi letter 'Ain', sword and Nagari letter 'Jā' on the reverse, unlisted in major publications.

Punches on edge, Very fine, Very rare.

The presence of the letter 'Ain' contributes in making the rupee a rare and unusual variety among Gwalior coins. KM lists (following 'Lingen and Wiggins' work on Coins of the Sindhias) a half rupee where one can make out a small 'Ain'. The illustration, however, doesn't show the Nagari letter. Here all the three symbols and the fixed AH date on obverse is clearly visible.
