A Fender Blues Junior III 15-watt 1x12" tube combo amplifier (serial #B-693168) from the working inventory of Portugal. The Man, acquired from The Official Portugal. The Man Reverb Store in September 2023.

Historical Context

Portugal. The Man are an American rock band formed in Wasilla, Alaska in 2004, led by John Gourley (vocals, guitar) alongside Zachary Carothers (bass) and other collaborators. The band relocated to Portland, Oregon, where they developed an eclectic creative identity spanning indie rock, psychedelia, and pop.

Their 2017 single "Feel It Still" achieved global commercial success, and their 2022 album Chris Black Changed My Life continued their prolific output.

The Fender Blues Junior III is a compact 15-watt all-tube combo amplifier in Fender's Hot Rod Amp Series, widely used across professional recording and performance environments for its warm tonal character and portability. Its relatively modest output and 1x12" speaker configuration make it well suited to studio tracking, rehearsal, and smaller performance applications — consistent with the type of working inventory held by an active band.

Stage & Performance Use

This amplifier formed part of Portugal. The Man's working equipment inventory during their active period and was offered through the band's official Reverb store alongside other instruments and gear from their collection. The original Reverb listing described it as owned by Portugal. The Man and noted it had wear "from being regularly loved," consistent with active use. The specific context of its use — whether in studio, rehearsal, or live performance, and by which member — is not documented.
