SERIAL NUMBER 3143 BARREL 5" CALIBER PMM PARA, MANUFACTURED CIRCA 1939. Commercially finished and proofed Eagle "N" on frame and barrel. The predecessor to the Walther P-38 the HP ( Heeres Pistole) had a very limited commercial offering with some being sold in Germany and Austria to the civilian market as well as a military contract to Sweden. Upon being adopted by Germany as the official sidearm it was renamed the P-38 produced by Mauser, Walther, SpreeWerke as well as abroad in France under the German code SVW. High polish blue with matching serial numbers on slide, frame barrel and locking block. Fitted with grooved brown Bakalite grips and a war time blue finished magazine marked "P.38v" on left side. CONDITION, Good with 75% blue finish remaining on slide, 90% blue finish on barrel and 60% blue finish on frame. Grips are very fine with no distress. Bore is dark with visible rifling and action operates properly. Most of these early production HP Pistols ended up being used during WW2 as private purchase arms and have a relatively low survival rate. C&R
