SADDLE RING CARBINE. Cal. 54. S# 2182. Numbered w/ the Navy carbines, this gun has 24” bbl. w/ flip over 2 leaf rear sight. There are no screw holes at rear of bbl. but there are 2 untapped holes either side of bbl. below rear sight. Second type action has floating firing pin. No markings on frame, fitted w/ saddle ring on left side. Walnut buttstock w/ no inspectors markings has steel buttplate & patchbox. CONDITION: fair to good. Metal is a brownish patina over many scattered marks & pitting. Mechanically good. Buttstock appears to be an old replacement. Saddle ring stud also possibly replaced. Dark pitted bore. Many of the atypical features on this gun bear further investigation. (01-17497/MGM126). ANTIQUE. $1,200-1,800.
