Old was born to Oglala Lakota Sioux parents and grew up belonging to American Horse The Younger's Band. Old and American Horse fought at Little Bighorn together and it is believed he carried this revolver there. They later surrendered with Crazy Horse in May 1877. It is believed Old was very religious and possibly a medicine man.
