(1980s) Conceptual performance artist and musician, Steve Thomsen was part of a thriving underground counterculture movement in Los Angeles in the 1970s and 80s. A founding member of the bands, SOLID EYE and MONITOR, Thomsen's work has a cult following with his unusual take on popular culture as art. Thomsen was also famous for his guerrilla-style performance art executed on rides at The Happiest Place On Earth, Disneyland. Thomsen would stage hidden speakers and off-kilter art installations "on stage" throughout the park decades before mystery street artist, Banksy followed suit. Thomsen was very partial to Polynesian themes and Tiki art and two stunning pieces are represented in the Dug Miller collection. Here, an unusual and original sculpting of a Moai Tiki God crafted for the Erector Set generation, which fits as easily into any mid-century as well as modern design. Properly lit, the piece has a magnificent three-dimensional effect. Made entirely of metal standing on a solid wood plinth base. 24"x13.5"x11.25". VG+.
