These extraordinary sake cups survived in the original wrapper & twine from the factory. They are embossed on the outside w/ Japanese fans & have a light blue outside color combined w/ darker blue interior decoration. The cups were produced for the 40th Japanese Infantry Division that was also known as the Whale Division. The Division was in existence from 1939-1945 & fought in Korea, Manchuria, as well as against the Soviet Army. They also served in various capacities in defense of the homeland. The cups are housed in a metal WWII period Japanese equipment box measuring approx. 8" x 2 3/4" x 3 1/2". The box is painted black w/ numerous Japanese characters on the top. CONDITION: cups show little or no wear. Box shows only handling wear. (02-14932/BF). $250-400.
