PISTOL. Cal. 31 Rocket Ball. S# 741 (under grip). Bbl. 6" oct. w/ integral mag. & shroud that rotates for loading. Lever operated brass action w/ scroll engraving on the sides, top & backstrap. Blade front sight w/ fixed V notch rear sight. 2 Piece walnut grips. New Haven Arms produced the Volcanic pistols & carbines from 1857-1860. Of about 3,300 produced, only an estimated 225 were No.1's w/ 6" bbls. CONDITION: bbl. retains traces of fading blue mixing w/ scattered spots of light pitting. Brass has acquired a mild patina. Original grip finish shows wear w/ scattered scratches & marks. Bore is dark retaining partially visible rifling w/ areas of pitting. (01-17174/DS). ANTIQUE. $4,000-6,000.
