Overall length: 19 3/4". Blade length: 12 1/4". Knives of this form are generally referred to as dag knives. The blade is hand forged & has a raised medial ridge on both sides. A cartouche has been stamped near the hilt that reads, “I & H SORBY” w/ a serrated border. Wooden 1 piece hilt appears to be a soft wood, possibly pine. Hilt is attached w/ 2 iron rivets & has a pattern applied to the wood achieved by hammering the flat of a file against soft wood or by branding with a hot file. No sheath. Although the blade shows a deep patina & the hilt has visible oxidation to the wood, we cannot guarantee the age of this knife as dag knives have been heavily reproduced for years. CONDITION: blade has a dark patina. Hilt has significant wear & several sm. cracks. Wood shows notable wear & oxidation. (02-13732/BF). $300-600.
