Kalyan or Kalyani was the seat of a Nawab feudatory to the Nizams of Haidarabad. This is probably the earliest issue of the mint, struck during a period of uncertainty in which the Nizam virtually became a vassal of the Marathas, until in 1760, Nizam Ali Khan put an end to the succession disputes that had raged since the death of Asaf Jah I.
