Akbar (1556-1605 AD), silver rupee, 'Kalima' type, Manikpur mint, AH 968, with Emperor's full name and 'crossed dumbbells' mint-mark on obverse, Shahada with AH date on reverse, unlisted in KM and other sources, 11.00g.

Very fine, Extremely rare.

Manikpur is presently located in Pratapgarh district of UP. During Akbar's reign, it was a strategic stronghold on the route through Baghelkhand forest towards Ilahabad. It became an important military station during Akbar's campaigns against the Afghans of Bihar and Bengal. Silver coins of this mint are exceedingly rare. The mint-name is inscribed upside down in the top quadrant of the obverse margin.
