Gupta Empire - base gold dinar of Vishnu Gupta (c.470-500 AD), 'Archer' type, Altekar p. 280, Kumar p. 389, 9.54g. Obv: nimbate king standing, holding a strung bow in one hand and an arrow in the other; a 'Garuda' standard to his left, Brahmi legend Vishnu below the arm holding the bow and traces of letters along the margin, Brahmi letter 'Va' between the feet. Rev: Lakshmi seated cross-legged on a lotus, holding lotus in one hand and a noose in the other; a symbol in the left field and traces of Brahmi legend Sri Chandraditya to right.
Very fine, Very rare.
Most coins of this rare and probably the last of the Gupta rulers show Brahmi letter 'Ru' between the feet of the king on obverse. On this piece, the letter looks more like a 'Va'
