Nolambas of South Karnataka, uninscribed gold fanam, (800-900 AD), 0.40g. Obv: Caparisoned nandi seated couchant facing right & a crescent above. Rev: Boldly executed five-petal lotus.

Extremely fine, Very rare

Nandi was the lanchhana (dynastic emblem) of the Nolambas, who thrived as feudatories to the Rashtrakutas in 9th and 10th century AD. Even though the coin is uninscribed, it might well be attributed to Mahendra I Nolamba Narayana (875-897AD) who was a celebrated Nolamba ruler.
