The Nikumbha dynasty is known to have ruled in South Gujarat - Khandesh - North Maharashtra region on the evidence of four copper -plate grants. From these grants we learn that Bhanushakti was the founder of the family. Following him, three other rulers are known - Adityashakti, Allashakti and Jayashakti. The dynastic name 'Nikumbha' survives as the present day surname 'Nikam' among the high caste Marathas.
