Kakatiyas of Warrangal, possibly the period of Prola I (1052-1076 CE), uniface gold PMC with 23 repousse punches, Two-and-half gold gadyana denomination, 9.63g, W: 63.62 mm; H: 62.83 mm. Unpublished variety and known for the first time. Obv: 1x central punch consisting of Rama-Lakshman standing facing front carrying a club in their right arms. 8x inner circle of punches surrounding the central punch consists of 2x Sri in Kannada, 1x Lenka in Kannada, 1x Koma in Kannada and then 4x Boar, the Kakatiya insignia as seen in the image. 14x peripheral circumfluent punches consisting of 7 petalled Lotus and 7 Lion facing left in sequence.

Extremely fine, Exceedingly rare.

Lenka Koma means the Feudatory chief or the commander of the army. The Kakatiyas ermerged as independent ruler in the late 12th century CE and prior to it, they were the feudatories of the Chalukyas of Kalyana. The above coin is perhaps an issue of Prola-I who might have enjoyed an important status under the Chalukyas of Kalyana and was perhaps allowed to issue his own coins.
